DARE TO IMAGINE AWARD
The  Dare to Imagine Award is made possible through the Edward Norvell Family. This special award, bearing a $1,000 scholarship, honors one Rowan County graduating senior whose artwork most exemplifies the creative potential of the human spirit, heart, and hand.

R. Dean Crouch

The work that I do is very important to me.  I like the projects to reflect my interests and look as realistic as possible.  I aspire to produce the most vivid and imaginative artwork that recreates the idea that I conceived at the beginning of a piece.  During the making of my work I like to jump around from place to place never focusing on any part for too long.  I select materials based on how I want the colors and lighting to appear.  To get the realistic and three dimensional shape that I desire, I like to roughly sketch the outline of the shapes and then follow the contours with whatever medium that reflects the theme of the project.  I love to add small and precise details that make the picture look like it can jump right off the page.  I also like to have multiple shades of colors to allow for the best possible blending.  I primarily work with pencil and charcoal because I find that they produce art with the greatest definition of light and shading and offer great variations of line weight.

More depth and detail is shown in  my current work, and I’m able to create art with many different types of media such as glass.  With my current work I show more complicated design and choose to challenge myself with more difficult pieces.  My newer work shows my interest in music using icons and images that make connections that make my art more personal.  Also a very large part of my artistic interests involve architectural drawing, in part to prepare me for my future in college and to also reflect my passion for architecture.
