Understanding the use of color, flowers, and other common objects in these paintings adds to a deeper enjoyment of this beautiful art. Presenter:Marina Konovalova-Bare November 11Italian Renaissance: The Rebirth of Classical Antiquity - Italy of the 1400s rose out of the Medieval period by rediscovering the grandeur of the ancient Roman Empire. A multitude of saints and symbols are combined with pagan and Christian influences to create some of the most beloved art in the world. Artists will include Donatello, Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael and many more. Presenter:Don Moore November 18The Windows of St. Lukes:A Portrait in Stained Glass - It is believed that St. Lukes Parish, established in 1753, contains the first examples of stained-glassartistry in this area. The lecture will examine the quality and iconography of this treasured collection, as well as the evolution of styles and attitudes of stained-glass craftsmanship over the years. Presenter:Davis Cooke December 9TheChristmas Story in Art - Gain a deeper appreciation for much of the art seen during the Christmas season. Learn to recognize unfamiliar saints and interpret events that surround the holidays. Some of the greatest Flemish and Italian Renaissance artists will be compared through the stories of the Annunciation, the visitation to St. Theresa, nativity and manger scenes, and the flight into Egypt.
