Visiting Artist Residency: Drawing with Thread. Painting with Fabric.

$0.00

Open to students currently enrolled in grades 6-12.

No Cost to Attend, see details.

June 12-16 / 10am-4pm:

Textile artist Susan Lentz uses a free motion sewing machine as one of her drawing tools. Thread painting is a form of embroidery that uses stitches to create images on fabric and can be done with a sewing machine or sewn by hand. She has observed most young creatives have been exposed to a variety of supplies and materials but have not had the opportunity to incorporate stitching into their personal toolbox. Lentz will guide a diverse group of young artists, each with their unique interests, talents and stories, on an educational journey.  Using old photos, pages from discarded books and magazines as source materials, artists will design symbols and motifs aligned with the theme of the residency. Students will learn basic stitches, sewing techniques and draw with a free-motion embroidery machine to create, individual projects and a group composition.

Letter of Recommendation from student’s current art instructor is required; Limited to 30 students.
