Underwater Circus / June 17-21

Imagine dancing jellyfish, playful mermaids, silly clown fish, and other ocean life performing for you.  Using paint, paper, glue, and collage methods, campers will create seascapes, puppets, and spinning sea creatures.  Let’s get funny and create our own Sponge Bob and sea slime!

We Are Dinosaurs! / June 24-28

This is always a popular camp. Campers will learn about their favorite prehistoric animals and create fossils, dinosaur eggs, masks, and dinosaur slime.  No one knows what color the dinosaurs were, so campers will decide.  Maybe a pink dinosaur?

From Infinity and Beyond!  Super Hero Pop Art / July 8-12

Back by popular demand, campers will design their own cape and mask along with supersized art work with colors that pop off the campus - POW!  Glue, paper, and pictures will create a super collage of our super hero friends.

Little Pet Shop / July 15-19

We love pets!  Pets that bark, fly, crawl, swim, hop, and meow.  Using collage, paint, and paper maché, campers will turn their favorite animals into puppets, creative masterpieces, and more. Paint with dog biscuits and paw prints.  Create your own mixed up pet.  What about a purple cat with fins, and feathers? Paint a pet rock that will be easy to care for.

Animal Extravaganza / June 17-21 Morning

This camp is for young artists who love animals and clay! They will learn hand building techniques and create a bevy of clay critters. Artists will be introduced to the potter’s wheel with age appropriate techniques as well. Pair with 2D 3D Draw, Paint Sculpt and SAD!

Get ready to spend the week having fun drawing and painting a fantastical creature which will jump off the canvas as a sculpture! A variety of art materials and art tools will be used to achieve each project. You will have creative license when choosing color and collage items to bring your fantastical 2D painting to life as a 3D sculpture. Pair with Animal Extravaganza and SAD!

Clay: Dream It. Build It. / June 24-28 Morning

Explore make believe worlds from books, movies and imagination. In this exciting camp, young artists will create scenes and characters from imaginary worlds using a variety of sculptural techniques. Pair with Fiber Art Animal Menagerie and SAD!

Fiber Art Animal Menagerie / June 24-28  Afternoon

Unleash your imagination in this beautiful and colorful class. Beyond the basics, we will use felt, ribbons, yarn, buttons, sequins and more to embellish a menagerie of animals that can hang, pin or simply drape on a variety of surfaces. The choice is yours. Techniques will include drawing, cutting, gluing and sewing.  Pair with Clay: Dream It. Build It. and SAD!

In this exciting camp, new artists will engage in the world of pottery. Through hands –on activities they will learn techniques such as wedging, carving and trimming. Learn to pinch twist and roll clay into any kind of project they choose.  Pair with Introduction to the Photo Lab and SAD!

Introduction to the Photo Lab / July 8-12 Afternoon

Kids will enjoy the magic of the darkroom by creating Rayographs. This technique allows you to create pictures in the darkroom by placing objects on light sensitive paper and exposing them to light. Students are encouraged to think about telling a story by bringing their favorite toys or objects. Then, they can take part in processing their images in the darkroom. Be sure to label all items. Darkrooms are fun but can be messy, wear old clothes.

In this engaging and hands-on class,  young creatives will learn the basics of hand sewing while constructing original projects. This sewing journey is for both beginners and those with a bit of sewing skill. Join other excited creative kids to design and craft pet purses, wallets, and pillows.

Assemblage is a creative and inventive art form. You will learn how to make fish, seaweed, coral reefs and more out of everyday, found objects. You will paint, build and arrange an underwater assemblage that will be uniquely yours.

Stopmotion Animation is an incredible, fun, hands-on way to make amazing short movies. In this camp, young film makers will learn about animation principles and use modeling clay to make their own animated projects.

The Poetry of Material Things / June 24-28 / Morning / Pair with Hand & Wheel and SAD! 

 "Artwear" is the term used to describe jewelry, accessories and clothing designed as conceptual or fine art. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and hand crafted to evoke it’s maker's artistic expression and aesthetic taste. In this camp ,young creatives will transform their own shirts, scarfs or totes into wearable works of art. Each item will be screen printed, hand painted and appliqued with designs imagined by the artists.

Painting, Drawing and Self Expression  / July 8-12 / Morning / Pair with Hand & Wheel and SAD! 

This camp introduces young artists to many different means of expressing one’s creativity. Young artists will explore the basics of drawing, painting and color theory, then put it all together into a finished master piece that expresses each individual’s uniqueness.

Cool Pool Paintings  / July 15-19 / Afternoon /  Pair with Hand & Wheel and SAD ! 

This workshop teaches artists how to make colors and dyes from sources in their garden, kitchen, or local markets. They will engage in a variety of artful adventures and summer fun experiences using the paints and dyes they create. Artists will leave with a papers and projects they can draw or paint on or use to make journals. Artists will also create a painting made with their own handmade paints!

AGES 12-18

Visiting Artist Residency / June 12-16 / 10am-4pm:  Drawing with Thread. Painting with Fabric.

Textile artist Susan Lentz uses a free motion sewing machine as one of her drawing tools. Thread painting is a form of embroidery using stitches to create images on fabric and can be done with a sewing machine or sewn by hand. She has observed most young creatives have been exposed to a variety of supplies and materials but have not had the opportunity to incorporate stitching into their personal toolbox. Lentz will guide a diverse group of young artists, each with their unique interests, talents and stories, on an educational journey.  Using old photos, pages from discarded books and magazines as source materials, artists will design symbols and motifs aligned with the theme of the residency. Students will learn basic stitches, sewing techniques and draw with a free-motion embroidery machine to create, individual projects and a group composition.  Letter of Recommendation required from student’s school art teacher. Space limited to 30 students.

 

Hand & Wheel Advanced  / June 17-21 /Afternoon

Potters who have gained some mastery of the fundamentals of hand building or working on the potter’s wheel will explore how they can unlock  their creativity and imagination by adding personal touches to their forms through color, texture and other techniques.

Mixed Media Sculpture & Jewelry / June 24-28  / Afternoon

Create wearable, sculptural jewelry. Artists will explore techniques needed to make earrings, necklaces and bracelets. Expand your design vocabulary and skills while making jewelry that is unique and personal.   Instructor: Brenda Gariepy 

 

Street “Zines” and Neighborhood Scenes:  Photo Walk / July 8-12 / Afternoon

Bring your favorite device for a digital photo walk with other enthusiastic creatives. A photo walk is a social event where photographers gather to explore a community, shoot photos and practice their skills. The concept is simple: grab a camera, walk around and snap the pictures that tell your story. Young artists will then organize their photographs into a self-published work of original texts and images, called a “Zine”. The final step is to print the Zine on a printer or copy machine and bind the pages together.

Photography Darkroom I  / July 15-19 / Afternoon

This camp introduces you to printing black and white photographs in a traditional darkroom. You will learn the basics of film processing, enlargers, control and manipulation of light, and chemistry to produce your own photographs. Bring your favorite film camera or use one of the camera we have on hand. One-on-one assistance is available to help you understand your camera so you can shoot to produce a proper negative. If you already have a darkroom background, the instructor will be there to guide you and act as a mentor for current projects or problems you wish to work on. Darkrooms are fun but can be messy, wear old clothes.
