Women in Material

SUMMER 2026

Formed, Fired, and Woven: Women in Material

Exploring the ways artists shape material into personal and powerful expressions of experience, identity, and creative vision.

July 6 - October 10, 2026

Waterworks Visual Arts Center proudly presents it summer exhibition ART for ALL: Experience Art Your Way — "Formed, Fired and Woven: Women in Material". This exhibition showcases the work of three talented women, Judith Laise, Robin Cass, and Holly Guertin; who utilize their creative vision through textiles, glass, and, mixed media to shape their works into powerful expressions of experience, identity and creative vision.

While working in vastly different media, artists Holly Guertin and Robin Cass share a deep fascination with the intersection of the natural world and human perception through their shows Hand in Hand (Guertin) and Essential Deviations (Cass). Their work is unified by a focus on biomorphic forms, tactile exploration, and a desire to evoke a sense of wonder through specialized, time-intensive processes. Judith Laise, an artist whose legacy is being celebrated posthumously; completes this powerful trio with her contribution via mixed media in her show A Retrospective. Laise’s utilization of both the grid and box strikingly contrasts with the flowing works of Guertin and Cass.

Waterworks Visual Arts Center welcomes visitors of all backgrounds to enjoy this exhibition, where the artists' works are unified by rich textures, sculptural, lifelike contours, and a shared dedication to evoking wonder through time-intensive craftsmanship.

Visitors are invited to attend a Meet the Artists Reception on Friday, July 10, from 5:30–7:00 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public and offers an opportunity to meet featured artists Robin Cass and Holly Guertin, and The Laise family while celebrating the opening of this extraordinary exhibition.

**Additional programming continues Saturday, July 11, at 11:00 a.m. with "In the Gallery with Holly Guertin," an intimate conversation with the artist. Guests will hear directly from Guertin about her creative process, inspirations, and the ideas behind her work.
