In this hands-on studio experience, little learners experiment with paint, shapes, textures, and teamwork. From messy finger painting to nature rubbings and a giant group mural, children learn that every mark matters. With storytelling woven into each session, campers develop early visual literacy and imaginative thinking.

Splash, Squish & Create! / July 13-17

Get ready for a week of messy masterpieces and magical discoveries! Young artists will paint with their hands, blow ocean bubbles into art, stamp sea creatures, and design textured nature collages. Through movement, storytelling, and sensory exploration, campers develop fine motor skills and big imaginations.

Color, Fashion & Kindness / July 20-24

Get ready for a week filled with bold color and big imagination! Young artists create magical tie-dye art, design their own paper fashions, and build bright spring and summer mosaics using tiny pieces of paper. The week ends with handmade celebration cards that spread kindness and joy. This camp encourages fine motor development, creative confidence, and meaningful expression.

Mini Master Studio Adventure / July 27-31

Little artists will snip and glue papers creating collages inspired by Romare Bearden. They will swirl and twirl their brushes to create like Vincent Van Gogh and explore colors and simple shapes to make flowers and landscapes inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe. Campers will also be inspired by the paintings of NC artist Ernie Barnes who celebrates joyful  dancers  and energetic athletes in his work.

Clay Cartoon Characters and Critters! / July 6-10 / Morning

Cartoon and Critters in Clay!  Students will create a bevy of clay figures including their favorites and their own original cartoon characters. We will also make stop motion animation of some of our clay characters! Students will learn hand building techniques and age- appropriate pottery wheel methods.

Watercolor Quills and Thrills / July 6-10 / Afternoon

Artists will discover and practice various watercolor techniques in order to create whimsical works on paper. These paintings will be enhanced by the art of paper quilling to create truly unique and beautiful mixed media paintings.

Oceans, Jungles and Deserts OH My! /July 13-17 / Morning

Create animals and their environments in this exciting clay class! Students will learn hand building and age-appropriate potter’s wheel skills to create critters such as Dinosaurs and their eggs, Frogs and Lilly Pads; Fish Dishes and Ocean Bowls, Birds and their nests, Honey Bee & Beehive cookie jars!

Summer Foodie Collage and Sculpture Treats / July 13-17 / Afternoon

Campers will develop their imagination and enhance their artistic skills by designing a variety of colorful foodie collages and creating summer fun food sculptures.  Come and join other young artists and create a feast for the eyes!

Great Magnetic Fish Catch / July 20-24 / Morning

Is it art or is it a game?  It’s both! In this class young artists will enjoy creating their own individual interactive fish pond and delight in a group kinetic art installation. Some of the techniques used will include cutting, painting and paper mache.

Eric Carle Collage Camp / July 20-24 / Afternoon

In this camp young artists will explore different artists found in our Modern Masters.  An Eric Carle-inspired art camp immerses kids in vibrant, process-based art, focusing on his signature layered collage style. Young creatives will use hand-painted papers, bright colors, and natural textures to create creatures and scenes from his beloved books. Artists will paint, cut, and glue to make their own caterpillars, chameleons, and butterflies, developing imagination, fine motor skills, and an appreciation for literature.

Abstract & Animal Print Paper Collage / July 27-31 / Morning

Students will have fun creating their own patterned paper using different techniques. Papers will be cut into various shapes to form a large abstract collage which will be displayed in a mat.

Robot Builders Lab / July 27-31 / Afternoon

Students will learn pottery wheel & hand building techniques while creating their own mini-masterpieces. Young artists will learn decorative glazing techniques based on the paintings of artists Wassily, Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Marc Chagall & more. We will focus on a different artist each day exploring their art style.

Action and Fashion Character Design Studio / July 6-10 / Morning

Create your own Action Hero or Fashionista! Campers will design art characters with exciting origin stories to match. Sculpt a relief fashionista or an action adventure hero then outfit your character with cool gear and accessories or bold, stylish outfits. Creativity and problem-solving come together in this hands-on experience with other art toy designers.

Clay STREAM / July 6-10 / Afternoon

STREAM comes to life in this awesome class where students will apply learning from Physics, Chemistry and Engineering! Clay students will learn hand building and pottery wheel techniques to design and construct a working clay box, Clay Cars, Animation Studio Mold making, Portrait Sculpting, Nature Print mugs and bowls. Students will also learn and apply glaze calculation basics and will mix their own glazes!

A Day with a Famous Artist / July 13-17 / Morning

This art camp will focus on famous artists and styles offering kids an exciting journey through art history. Young artists will learn about masters like Van Gogh, Picasso and Warhol, explore different movements (Cubism, Pop Art) and build their skills and imagination with a different artist/style theme each day. They will create art with their own twist, of course, using various mediums like paint, clay and collage.

Clay students will learn at their skill level using hand building and the potter’s wheel to create usable plates, bowls, mugs, coffee/tea set and a POP Art-inspired food sculpture keepsake box. Campers will also learn a variety of glazing techniques to beautify their pottery pieces.

This camp is for beginning and returning students. Campers will improve their skills while exploring original project ideas. Potters who have gained some mastery of the fundamentals of hand building or working on the potter’s wheel will unlock more of their creativity and imagination to personalize their work.

Sketch to Screen:  A Printmaking Workshop / July 20-24 / Afternoon

For beginning and returning students. What happens when young artists design their own prints?  Artists will discover the world of print making including screen printing and block printing to create prints on paper as wll as original textile designs to print on totes and other items.

Potters in this class will learn basic wheel-throwing skills and a variety of hand building techniques while exploring original project ideas. Campers will also explore basic glazing techniques to add color and finish to their projects.

Mixed Media Portrait Collage / July 27-31 / Afternoon

In this class young artists will learn the creative art form of photo collage.Their photo image will be taken and transferred onto a surface where they will use mixed media and other embellishments to create a unique piece of art featuring their image.

AGES 12-18

Middle and High School Residency / June 22-26 / A.M. and P.M. Sessions

This summer, we invite young artists ages 12-18 to participate in an art residency.  The goal of the residency is to facilitate the development of young artists’ creative practices by providing hands-on experience and fresh perspectives.  For one week, participants will join the accomplished artist, James Keul, and engage in an intensive exploration of a variety of art media.  The workshop will incorporate instruction in drawing, painting, plein air painting, and monotypes.

 

Epic Avatars: Digital Character Design / July 6-10 / Afternoon

Design a character and learn about drawing digitally in one course! This class is designed for digital art beginners, and is recommended for young artists looking to transfer their skills to a digital medium. At the end of this course, students will have a grasp on how to use a drawing tablet and navigate most digital art programs at a novice level.

Still Life Color Study—Oil Painting / July 13-17 / Afternoon

How would a still life painting capture your personality? In this class artists will create a colorful still life using personal objects. A sharp eye is required when mixing the perfect color. Artists will discover the myriad of hue differences capable with just a daub of pigment. The takeaway will be a beautiful still life portrait painting and a more colorful way of thinking.

Hand & Wheel Pottery / July 20-24 / Afternoon

Potters will make pottery pieces and learn to use  a variety of clay tools.  Students  who prefer hand building will use coils and slabs to transform clay into unique pieces. Potters who prefer to use the wheel will make bowls, cups and more as they develop their pottery skills. All campers will explore underglazes to finish their pieces with thoughtful color choices.
